Abstract
This article investigates the metaphors for the construction of the individual in society considering the symptom of the time raised in the film Šílení by Jan Švankmajer (2005): the madness of institutionalization. In this sense, it is understood that the film is presented as an example susceptible to analysis from the metaphorological point of view of Blumenberg, and even as a representation of the theory itself. For the development, the evolution and coherence between ontology, phenomenology and anthropology are proposed within Blumenberg’s theoretical scheme, to establish how much the psychic faculties of consciousness and the external elements are components of the symbolic construction of the identity. Later, this process is analyzed in two opposite characters of the film Šílení, Jan and the Marquis, emphasizing the implicit criticism that implies the confrontation of each with their cultural and social environment.
