Abstract

Social innovation is a relatively recent concept. Although there are many initiatives that have been presented under this model, only until a few years ago definitions were proposed that put on the table the interpretation of institutions, communities, and government entities. Lately, in higher education institutions the need to generate structures, spaces and mechanisms that facilitate the development of these processes has become evident. Under this context, this project starts from a bibliographic review and case studies on the process of defining social innovation. It also raises a reflection on the structures that have been developed, from academia and from design, to take on the challenges associated with this type of project. Finally, there is a review of the tools that provide a methodological structure to these projects and the way in which these resources can be typified to generate organized processes that ensure results for various areas and complexities.
